Story
1981
Growing up on He-man, Star Wars, Transformers and wrestling, I’ve wanted to make my own action figures since I started drawing at 4 years old.
1998
My love of drawing throughout my childhood led me into graphic design where I was eventually swept up in the web industry of the late 90s. I toiled on websites by day, but evenings were spent illustrating the art that I really wanted to create.
2020
Without a heap of savings or external funding, creating my own toy was nothing more than a pipe dream for decades. However, 39 years after that little kid started drawing Superman… here comes CryptoArt.
2021
Not only did the NFT scene give value to my vast catalogue of digital art, it provided me an opportunity to seriously consider designing and creating my own action figure. A colourful door had opened – the possibility of fulfilling my childhood dream in 5.5” of resin.
The NEON REAPER figures are 100% funded by collectors of Signalnoise CryptoArt. They are truly Powered by Ethereum.

The Neon Reaper started his journey as a minor hero in another project... in 2014! He was inspired by a few of my favourite characters: Skeletor (Masters of the Universe) and Casey Jones (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

When I started designing my NUKES line of digital action figures in October 2020, I thought it the perfect time to resurrect the Reaper and apply his design to a new body template.

The original idea for the NUKES line was to be fully illustrated. Here's the Reaper with paints and textures applied in Photoshop.

I knew the Reaper was destined for greater things... and Photoshop wasn't gonna cut it. So, I rolled up my sleeves and started learning Blender in order to render him as a realistic looking action figure. Thanks to my pal Basil Murad with the help on this guy.

I contacted ace toy-maker Evan Morgan who enthusiastically agreed to take on the job. After carefully adapting my knucklehead Blender file into something usable, we were off to the races. Here's the first 3D print!

It got very exciting when Evan started sending initial paints on his resin casts. The Reaper was rising from the grave.

Like any biker, the Neon Reaper has a full back-patch to strike fear into his victims. Evan's a fantastic painter, look how clean that is!

The Reaper has a full set of patches on his vest, so Evan got some high-grade decals to do the job. Each one is applied individually... how Evan finds the patience I'll never know.

Our Neon Reaper was slowly taking shape. The Phantom Biker of Tezuka would be coming for us all.

Over the Christmas holidays, just for fun, I designed a blister pack for the Reaper... that's when I showed my wife Naomi and said "I think I have to make a real toy." She agreed.

Any great action figure needs a great blister pack. Here's the first prototype package with temporary blister. Shouts to my man 8-bit Zombie for "lending me" the blister from his Thrashor figure!
